Kevin Makes Me a Poet!

Just a few songs ago…

Kevin’s playing one of his originals while I work on novel study questions and sing along (read: partially paying attention).

He’s in one of the verses when he knows he’s singing the wrong lyrics again…

Kevin, still strumming along: “I’ve gotten to where I mess that one up every time. That’s not the one that goes there, is it?”

Me, looking up from the laptop: “I don’t know. I just follow you. So if you mess up, I do, too.”

Maybe it’ll work its way into our next song. 😛

Lucas’ Famous Americans Project

image

I was not disappointed when Lucas chose Abraham Lincoln for his 2nd-grade Famous Americans project. And I’m elated with what he did with it!

He picked out the red posterboard at Hobby Lobby; drew by hand and cut out the “bubble letters”; wrote a detailed paragraph explaining Lincoln’s most important accomplishments; drew and colored his picture in two parts; and then glued it all in place.

Awesome job, Lukey-Luke!!

Butternut Squash

The last time we were at my parents’ house, my dad gave Lucas one of the butternut squashes he grew in his garden this year.

So the next week, I cooked it in the microwave like he told me, just like a baked potato: poke a bunch of holes in it and cook it about 10 minutes.

When I cut it open, it looked like a pumpkin on the inside. Lucas and Kevin both liked it a lot. They both said it tasted like sweet potato.

If I cook one again, I’ll probably scoop the squash off the inside wall, rather than just cut it up with the rind, or whatever it’s called in squash. It was just SO hot that I had a hard time touching it enough to cut it off.

You may have noticed I’m not big on cooking veggies. It’s usually cans and frozen around here..

Parking Epidemic

What is UP with all the bad parking lately??

This is just one of the many bad scenes I’ve seen of late, and it’s definitely a no-go. That Ford SUV is clearly over the line.

Some aren’t so flagrant, but in narrow parking lots like this one at Coleman Marketplace, there’s no room for error. Just pulling your vehicle inside the lines isn’t enough. Centering is essential.

Oh, and see that cup below the driver’s-side door of the Mitsubishi?

Yeah, we actually saw that woman open her door to drop the cup in the parking lot.

Real classy, lady. 🙁

~+~

And Kevin reiterates his latest motto: “Pray, don’t say.”

And I hit “publish” anyway… 🙁
