Freshman Orientation / Open House

Wow. What a day yesterday was!

Almost 60 of my new students and their parents and families visited my room, and some of you participated in my poll questions, as you can see above.

These are the answers to the parents’ question, “What do you miss about high school?”

  • volleyball (x2)
  • creative writing and mythology class; friends
  • friends (x3)
  • just school — no working
  • no bills
  • football games
  • no real responsibility
  • nothing
  • no responsibility — friends
  • work
  • sports
  • everything & not paying bills
  • no stress
  • no work
  • wrestling team and being with friends constantly

And these are the answers to the students’ question, “What most excites you about coming to high school?”

  • freedom (x3)
  • new people and freedom
  • meeting new people (x4)
  • learning
  • opportunities that can make you go to college
  • basketball and tracks
  • band
  • sports
  • nothing
  • NJROTC

(Several students told me they’re not as excited about starting high school as they are nervous. My question could definitely have been better!)

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s Open House, when I’ll get to meet more of my new students and hopefully see many of my former students, as well.

Also, I’m thinking a lot of freshmen will return tomorrow to get a better grasp on the layout of this big old school. Don’t forget your school maps!
